What we do

The activities of Peace Academy revolve around five different service areas.

Conflict and cooperation challenges

Peace Academy intervenes and supports interventions in active conflicts and situations where cooperation is difficult. We help in trying to resolve and manage the conflict.

Robustness scan

We assess a society, country, company or organization on their robustness for conflict, for example on their conflict solving infrastructure. Based on this assessment scan we advise on how to increase conflict resilience and conflict prevention. We can also assist in implementation of recommendations.

Multi-level conflict and process design training

This training focuses strategic process design. Process shapes outcomes, and knowing how to strategically plan and implement is what sets impactful interventions apart. In person training in The Hague 10, 11 and 12 June 2025.

Training and coaching

Training and coaching can be part of any type of intervention, but we also offer it as standalone products. We offer training in negotiations, insider mediation, conflict resolution, stakeholder engagement, strategic planning, process design and more. As a follow-up to a training there is the possibility to do coaching sessions to support actual implementation of lessons learned by participants.

Toolbox development and research

We are constantly developing our own toolbox and that of clients. Think of digital or data driven solutions, but also of research into an integrated European approach to negotiations or into ways that Western countries can learn from lessons from the Global South on how to deal with conflict and extremism. The toolbox is never finished.

New initiatives

Peace Academy is always looking for new initiatives to be part of, to support, or to develop from the ground up. These initiatives can range from setting up new engagement processes to developing networks of practitioners to unlock more practical solutions on how to do peace.

Vocational training

One initiative that we’re developing is creating more training options for the people who actually do peace. A lot of the training in negotiation, mediation and conflict resolution is aimed at higher educated, English speaking professionals. But a lot of the peace and conflict prevention work is done on a local level. There is a lack of sufficient long term commitments in setting up training programmes for local communities, let alone initiatives which at the same time tackle higher education and elites. A concrete idea is to organize a trainee programme in which young talented people can join the teams of actual mediators and learn on the job.

At the moment Peace Academy is looking for practioners to join the initiative and to move towards first funding.
